SHERMAN, TX -- In a matter of days, Sarah Palin has become one of the most talked about women in the nation. Local Republicans weighed in Wednesday night.
Ever since John McCain announced that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be his running mate for vice president, she has been surrounded by controversy.
There have been plenty of questions over her 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy and her firing Alaska's public safety commissioner.
Palin has also faced accusations of ties to Alaska's Independence Party, a controversial state's rights group. All of these things have sparked debate nationally and locally over whether she is an appropriate choice for vice president.
Grayson County Republicans and many other residents still support Palin and McCain's decision of choosing her as his running mate.
"The talk about her daughter and her husband with the DUI 20 years ago. I think the bottom line is it really doesn't matter about her family. It's not about that. It's about what she can do, and it's about the decisions she's going to make as vice president," said David Gibson, Chairman of the Grayson County Republicans.
"The Democrats have really gone a long ways in the past of being the first to nominate a woman for vice presidential candidate, and I think it's high time the Republicans have stepped up to it," Garry Neal, a resident from Grayson County, said.
