CARTER COUNTY, Okla. -- Officials in Carter County are going after people who have not paid up on their taxes.

You may have seen the list in the newspapers of dozens of names of people who have reportedly not paid their taxes. County officials say they put the list in every paper across Oklahoma.

Those who do not pay their property taxes within three years could have a lien placed against their property, according to a state statute.

"You know I’d like to stress it’s important to pay your taxes. You can not just go without paying them. You have actually four years before you lose the property, but in that four year period the fees and interest really add up, and you need to pay them soon as possible," Carter County treasurer Ladonna Miller says.

Miller says she will contact mortgage lenders who will usually help homeowners pay those taxes.

We are taxed at out jobs taxed for our land and taxed in the store what is the deal I feel we are being robbed I agree thumblelina our roads are helpless and I am getting more and more damage to my car going to and from work everyday. We Americans don't actually OWN anything. Like the tax assessor says pay or lose your property. We don't own it, we just rent it from the county. Our taxes go up every year, and the conditions of our roads and highways continue to fall apart.
