Jailers in Question After 11th Escape

Michael Edelen & Justin Reynolds

05-19-06 - After another escape, the Bryan County Jail is facing more questions about their jailers. Michael Edelan and Justin Reynolds escaped Thursday, even though Reynolds was supposed to be under tight watch after a previous escape.

Both are still on the loose and the OSBI is investigating how they escaped. After Kevin Cross’ escape back in February, jailers themselves went to the board asking for money. The board says they are looking at ways to do so, but they want to wait for an engineer to tell them exactly what improvements need to be made to the jail before they make any decisions.

The jail administrator says until the pay gets better, it will be harder to recruit qualified jailers. A sales tax increase to support the jail was supposed to be on the July 5 ballot, but will be delayed until later in the year.

If you spot the two suspects, contact the OSBI at (405)848-6724 or your local law enforcement agency. You can visit the OSBI Web site by clicking here.
