5-23-06 - A man has been charged in the shooting death of another man, after a traffic stop lead to the discovery of a body Monday evening in Love County. Jeffrey Evans is being held without bond on a first degree murder charge.
The OSBI investigation It began early Monday evening when authorities pulled over a pick-up.
The officer observed blood inside the truck, and after questioning the driver, deputies found the body of 30 year old Calvin Porter in a field several miles south of Highway 32. The victim had been shot at least three times in the head and chest. Porter was released May 2nd from the Garvin County jail, but he is from Ohio and had been in the area for several months.
A witness called 911. The Love County Sheriff is assisting the OSBI in this investigation. They are still searching for a murder weapon and trying to determine the relationship between the two men, as well as a motive.
