5-25-06 - A Love County mother is doing her part as a Marine mom to support the family of Lance Corporal Hatak Yearby, who was killed last week in Iraq. Kathy Davis is compiling letters from other Marine families into a bereavement book, something she’s done three times so far.
As part of the Marine Moms group, women from across the nation send out the call whenever a Marine is killed. They respond with letters of support and condolence, and the closest mom to the family’s region puts the notes together in a book. When Kathy is done, she’ll present the book to Hatak’s parents and wife.
But the duty hits especially close to home this time for Kathy. She knew Hatak personally. His son grew up with her son Jon, who’s about to leave for his 2nd tour in Iraq.
She says its an obligation she has to every family in her area that loses a Marine.
The Oklahoma Marine Moms will be meeting in Oklahoma City in two weeks. They'll be packing care packages for Marines who are overseas.
