6-03-06 – The man who commanded U.S. Troops in Iraq was in Texoma on Saturday. Former General Tommy Franks made the trip back to his hometown of Wynnewood, Oklahoma for the unveiling of a monument in front of his childhood home.
Franks only spent the first five years of his life in Wynnewood, but he still considers the Garvin County town his hometown.
Saturday afternoon, the Wynnewood Chamber of Commerce held an unveiling for a monument the chamber erected outside Frank’s childhood home. The current owner gave the chamber permission to create the monument.
Franks signed copies of his book, “An American Soldier” and told the audience about his days as General.
Since retiring in 2003, Franks and his wife live in Florida. They still spend time in Oklahoma, at their ranch in Roosevelt.
