Lone Grove Debating on Tattoo Shops

06-05-06 - When Governor Brad Henry signed Senate Bill 806 into law last month, he made tattoos a part of Oklahoma's future, but will the business be a part of Lone Grove's future?

Starting November 1, tattooing will be legal in the sooner state for the first time in 43 years.

But in order for business to move in, the cities must allow it.

Tonight, the Lone Grove City planning and zoning commission will talk about the future of tattooing and body piercing.

No businesses have applied for a permit yet.

But with Highway 70 winding through the heart of town, city leaders say it's inevitable.

And although new business is good for the growing city, and they would rarely turn one away, the new bill opens up a whole new can of worms, with health and morals open for debate.

The planning and zoning committee only makes recommendations to the city council.

Council members will have the final say on whether to allow tattoo and body piercing establishments to build.

Tonight's meeting is just the first step in a long process.

It starts at 7 p.m. in the council room of the municipal building.
