SHERMAN, Tex. -- A Sherman restaurant has closed its doors. Regulars of Denny's Restaurant on Texoma Parkway need to find a new place to eat breakfast. The facility closed on Thursday.

Authorities at the Grayson County Health Department say the closure has nothing to do with health inspections. They say they actually inspected the restaurant on Tuesday, and it passed with flying colors.

A spokesperson for Denny’s says the decision to close the restaurant was based on "personal business issues" but they hope to reopen in the future.

Well maybe conditions did deteriorate at this old Denny's. I have no way of knowing. I was franchisee of this unit in the early seventies and know for a fact that it was clean and that the food was superior. Unless the Denny's inspection system has gone to hell since then, I can only conclude that the semi-literate critics who have been posting here have other reasons for taking potshots. In Sherman, a likely motive could be the cultural jealously common to innately inferior classes. In my time I would have said, "maybe it was too good for you."

It was a good place in its time. There was a time when that was all there was to eat at in Sherman. I had many good times in Denny's in the late 60's and early 70's. That's where everybody went.

If it was so nasty and so bad why did some of you stay and not get up and leave? Never ate there and sounds like I am glad I didn't.

Someone give the spell checker a day off. No matter how you spell it, dirt is still dirt. The Chefette was in Sherman a long time, lots of 'elite' ate there, but believe me I went in once, the smell I can still remember. Denny's wasn't much better.Buildings so old. You can't clean dirt.........

It was about time this place closed. Let me count the ways. Poor service. Not honoring televised specials. Lack of cleanliness. Breakfast not too bad, IF they got your order correct. I'd much rather have a Waffle House. Now that's your basic breakfast place!

The whole post, granpa, the whole post. I am really not sure what you said there. The sentence kind of ran on, and I am not real sure where one idea ends and the other begins. But I think I have it figured out now.

Posted by: granpa on Oct 1, 2008 at 12:56 PM
ooto be more specific on what your whatin about ?

Posted by: midniteryder Location: Sherman on Oct 1, 2008 at 11:04 AM
Shermanite- you like the "Awful Waffle"? That's about as basic a greasy spoon as one gets. Breakfast ain't bad, but I can't talk about the lunch & supper menus (too afraid to try). Denny's normally has good food as the chain goes, but apparently this one forgot customer service. They messed themselves over here. Maybe with a new franchise manager it can re-open, but a bad rep is hard to overcome.

You folks complaining about the place being nasty never did eat at Carl's or the Chefette, did you? You would rather have sterile over character.

Posted by: sherman Location: sherman on Sep 30, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Yes it was nasty. I went about a year ago was put at a dirty table, took forever to clean it off. Finally gave our order and it came out wrong and gross. I have not been back and will not. Made me sick when I saw the football team was saleing the coupons with Denny's on it because it was a waste for me. I hope they tear it down and build something else.

Posted by: shermanite Location: shertown on Sep 30, 2008 at 10:58 AM
yes i know it looked nasty but it was good and i liked it too! but they really need to just tear that building down and start over! its just better than ihop to me!

Posted by: OOTO Location: Texoma on Sep 30, 2008 at 09:33 AM
What a shame. We used to eat 2 and 3 AM breakfasts there back in my college days.

Posted by: Lynn Location: Sherman on Sep 30, 2008 at 09:01 AM
Yep. That place was nasty! So gross. Went there about 3 months ago and vowed to never go back. I wanted to leave as soon as we walked in. The hostess sat us at a dirty table, then seemed surprised when we asked to move or for her to clean it. She got an attitude. Then our waitress was slower than Xmas and was too busy flirting with my hubby to pay attention to anything else. She was trying to sell him something other than pancakes!

its hard to believe that it passed health inspection, that place is/was nasty! if you have ever worked in the back, you would have never ate there again..

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 29, 2008 at 08:37 PM

Posted by: Boo Location: Sherman on Sep 29, 2008 at 06:15 PM
I quit eating there cause I got tired of waiting 3 hrs for food. "You want Tea with that?" - Good luck.
