2nd Citizen's Fire Academy begins in Paris

PARIS, TX-- A few residents are learning what it takes to be a firefighter, during Paris' second Citizen's Fire Academy.

Thursday night kicked off the first of 8 sessions, with a tour of the fire station complete with fittings for gear. Each week these 11 volunteers will have different instructors and participate in different activities.

Captain William Mcdowell hopes the citizens get a better understanding of what firefighters do.

"They can take an appreciation for the jobs that the guys do that are in the fire service," said Captain Mcdowell. "Not just here locally, but across the nation."

The academy will run until May 10th, and Paris plans to hold another academy in the fall.
