SHERMAN, Tex. -- The price of gas is now affecting some folks and their newspaper. The Dallas Morning News says it will no longer be delivering to parts of the Texoma area.
The newspaper says it is too far to drive with high gas prices and not enough subscriptions in parts of our area. An employee tells us the company started notifying subscription holders about the change two weeks ago, but says customers do have options.
Texomans can stop receiving the paper altogether and get a refund, or the newspaper’s staff says you can buy it at newsstands.
A third option is mail delivery, but to be mailed to your home it costs an extra $17 a month to pay for the postage, and it will arrive a few days late.
In a statement to KXII-TV from The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday, the newpaper said:
"Because of rising delivery costs, on October 1 The Dallas Morning News discontinued same-day home-delivery of the newspaper in certain areas, including parts of Leonard, Pottsboro, Tom Bean, Trenton and Whitewright. Subscribers in the city of Sherman were not affected, with the exception of one rural route along Highway 11. Readers can convert their subscriptions to mail delivery by contacting the newspaper, or they will receive a refund for the balance on their accounts. The Dallas Morning News is available online (free), and single copies may be purchased on racks at retail locations."
