DENISON, Tex. -- Residents of the Homestead of Denison took a trip down memory lane, calmed their minds, and relaxed their bodies Wednesday, all by using their sense of smell.

Folks got the chance to smell scented oils and sample organic aromatherapy recipes like sugar scrub and foot soak. It was all part of the first ever Aromatherapy Day, made possible by hospice volunteers trained in the practice.

"We did our own case study today with residents of Homestead of Denison, and I think they really enjoyed it. You could tell by their faces they were stimulated," home hospice consultant Cindi Wilson said.

"With this lavender, it just smells so good, and it makes you want to go to sleep," Homestead resident Myrtle Norris said.

Hospice consultants say it's not only calming for the residents, but the scents also help the body's healing nature.
