GAINESVILLE, TX -- With the big Red River Rivalry game Saturday in Dallas, we're seeing many Sooner fans driving through the area. Stephanie Brletic has details about the positive economic impact.

Sooner fans are headed south, and just because they're not willing to cheer for UT doesn’t mean they're not willing to spend their money in North Texas.

The entrance to the Factory Shops in Gainesville welcomes both UT and OU fans, but the parking lots are full of cars flying the sooner flag, with many people making the trip to the Metroplex for Saturday’s big game.

For many of those people, the shops are a great stopping point to stretch their legs and spend a few bucks.

Reebok store manager Becky Norwood says business is good when rivals across the red River meet. Employees met Friday’s store goal by 10 a.m. Norwood says they were ready for the traffic.

"We kind of put all the OU colors to the front. We knew we'd have OU traffic, and just trying to help people as much as we can," Ms. Norwood said.

Other managers at the factory shops say they are happy to have the economic boost, even if it means taking money from Sooners.

You reference inferior facilities. Have you been to Norman or Stillwater lately??Or are you just smoking crack?? Educate yourself before you comment!!

I love watching the quality football displayed every year in the Red River Rivalry where Texas south (Longhorns) takes on Texas north (Oklahoma). Texas puts out enough good football players to fill out both of their rosters.

Anonymous You may not want them to win but if they do are we going to hear you cry?

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 14, 2008 at 03:42 PM
Leroy I believe your comment was the best on here LOL!!! But I would have to agree with commuter, kinda ridiculous but maybe OU players couldn't find their way to the game so they had to have someone to tell them which way to go

Hey Commuter, someone has to keep the OU cheerleaders from grazing in the fields!

Posted by: Commuter on Oct 14, 2008 at 01:53 PM
On Friday afternoon, I noticed that there were 4 DPS cruisers on I-35-complete with lights flashing escorting buses of(I assume)OU football players. The competition between the 2 states is great, but police escorts for football players is just a bit much. I-35 is an absolute madhouse adn last Friday it was worse. I think DPS is more needed doing their jobs instead of escorting "players".

Am I going to have to be the only one on here displaying any decorum, and that goes out to the OU fans also. Texas played a great game of football, as did OU. Texas, as evidenced by the score however, played a better game of football than OU did. Colt McCoy did a great job, and both he and Sam Bradford had nothing but praise for one another at the end of the game. That's perhaps why they are playing for top ranked sports teams, and why some of the others on here are sat in their trailers making poorly spelled, badly structured insults. Both sides fans could learn from their quarterbacks.

OK you Texans you may have won this game but don't think your going to win the BIG 12 Alabama will beat you guys with their eyes closed.

Posted by: sooner sadness on Oct 13, 2008 at 01:46 PM
You longhorn fans are just plain mean. You guys know that people from Oklahoma have absolutely nothing else to be proud of other than their football team (comprised mostly of Texans). Now that the longhorns defeated them they have nothing to live for. I mean look, they live in Oklahoma for heavens sakes. There is NOTHING desirable about it. Take away their football crown and they are left with nothing but bad roads, inferior edcuation facilities, and bubba redneck family reunions where they hope to get lucky with a relative. We should have let them win.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 13, 2008 at 12:24 PM
Did anyone notice that the trim on Stoops and the other ou coaches shirts looked like a white longhorn??

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 13, 2008 at 12:22 PM
Dear John, I envy you so. I saw some of the sadden fans on TV, but I know it didnt do them justice. I want to see it in person. Lucky you. Hook em Horns.

I live in a high rise in Dallas, and it was so funny seeing the looks on the okies faces as they were leaving the hotel next door. They had absolutely nothing to look forward to in life :)

Dear Anonymous on Oct 11 at 11:53pm: Oh, now I get it! I appologize for insulting your intelligence and insinuating that the Texas public school system was not up to standard. In the future though, you might want to refrain from using the word "thingy" in order avoid such confusion. :-) By the way, it was nothing personal. It's just part of the fun of the rivalry. I appreciate your well wishes and look forward to chatting with you again next October. May your UTerus be everything you hoped it would be!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 12, 2008 at 01:46 PM
This was not luck, we knew in the first place we would beat OU, what all you OU fans need to do now is head back across the Red River and stay there where you belong, TEXAS LONHORNS ARE #1 and ALWAYS WILL BE!!!!!!!!

Posted by: JD Location: Sherman on Oct 12, 2008 at 09:01 AM
I bet soonerfan14 had a wet pillow night in good old Lawton last night!

long dissapointing ride home???

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 12, 2008 at 01:25 AM
In regards to soonerfan14, there is a fine line between heckling and just flat out tacky...you are just plain tacky for your comment. I know its a big rival but learn some sportsmanship!!

Posted by: Mark on Oct 12, 2008 at 01:21 AM
but i guess they wouldn't OK state twice. For some reason I was thinking OK state was in the big 12 north. I was wrong.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 11, 2008 at 11:53 PM
dear soonerfan14, there is this thingy called wind, and your stench was carried from that far away. I'm not even going to pick on you anymore. The sooners gave it their best though. Best of luck in the rest of the season. LOL.

Posted by: Mark on Oct 11, 2008 at 11:43 PM
I hate OU but i think TX is lucky they don't have to play them again. There in great spot however to make a run at the national championship. It will be extremely difficult to beat OK State or Missouri twice though.

Posted by: Texas at Heart! on Oct 11, 2008 at 11:21 PM
I loved seeing all the excited OU fans Friday shouting and smiling and on their way to the GREAT state of TEXAS!!! But what I can't wait for even more are the carloads of frowns and defeted fans that can't believe that TEXAS beat Oklahoma!!!! lol :)

Posted by: ash on Oct 11, 2008 at 08:28 PM
TEXAS WON !!!! 45-35 yeahhh

Posted by: Chris Location: San Antonio on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:44 PM
And now they can go back north to crappy Norman with a big fat black eye they were given in Dallas.

Posted by: JD Location: Sherman on Oct 11, 2008 at 03:35 PM
Are we now going to get the follow up story of Sooner fans heading back north? Get it back home losers!

BOOMER SOONER!!!

Posted by: soonerfan14 Location: Lawton, Ok on Oct 11, 2008 at 09:26 AM
Dear Anonymous on Oct. 10th at 6:11 pm: The story was covering Sooner fans traveling down I-35 into that sorry excuse for what you guys call a state. In case you haven't noticed, (and if you got your education in Texas, I'm betting you haven't) I-35 does not run through Sherman. So, that odor you detect is most likely you and your fellow UTerus head fans! Oklahoma will DOMINATE your burnt orange butts just as they have 6 of the last 8 years! If you still smell something, my advice is that you go ahead and take your weekly shower, visit whatever relatives you might have that own a television, and enjoy the game... I know I will! BOOMER SOONER!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:06 AM
THE LONGHORNS ARE GOING TO KICK SOME BUTTS!!!! OU!!! STINKS AND THEY ALWAYS WILL

Posted by: Bevo Location: Sherman on Oct 10, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Is this news? OU fans heading south? Who cares? They should go back north. This is Texas! Most of their players are from Texas anyway. Aren't "Sooners" just a bunch of cheaters anyway? Isn't that what a "sooner" is? Who wants their team name based on cheaters and thieves! Hook'em Horns!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 10, 2008 at 11:00 PM
HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 10, 2008 at 10:30 PM
OU Needs to go back North and stay there

Posted by: KRYSTI Location: COLBERT,OKLAHOMA on Oct 10, 2008 at 07:08 PM
GO LONGHORNS ......OU SUXS

Posted by: texas fan Location: sherman on Oct 10, 2008 at 06:33 PM
DONT BOAST ON THE ECONOMIC PLUNDER JUST YET!! WHEN TEXAS STOMPS THE SOONERS TAILS THEY MAY BE COMIN BACK TO THESE SHOPS WITH VARIOUS EXCUSES FOR THEIR $$ BACK!! SORE LOSERS?? HA

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 10, 2008 at 06:13 PM
I'd "Sooner" see them slink back across the Red River with their tails between their legs. HOOK 'EM HORNS!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 10, 2008 at 06:11 PM
I thought I could smell something moving through Sherman.
