MADILL, OK -- About 20 Marietta High Schools students toured the Integris Hospital in Madill on Wednesday. Hospital officials say some of the students may eventually end up working there.

The students got to spend most of the afternoon spending time with medical professionals learning about jobs in health care.

Integris officials say it is important to get these kids interested in the medical field now, because by 2011, there will be more than 11,000 medical jobs in Oklahoma alone.

"There are a lot of fields in health care that people don’t really even think about, and I’m sure at the end of the day today their going to say there’s this field and that field, and I never really even knew they existed until today, so were exposing them to new fields," Pamla Ahearmd at Integris Hospital said.

Students called it a positive experience and were excited to learn about potential future jobs.

There are an awful lot of jobs in health care that aren't in the nursing field (and they need folks, too)- respiratory therapy, physical therapy, radiologic technology (X-ray techs), laboratory technologists, physical therapists.....and the list goes on. And it's not just Integris Marshal that need new employees, but just about every hospital in the country. You'll need education beyond high school, but it's well worth it. And so far, healthcare is a recession-proof industry.
