OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Governor Brad Henry called for a supplemental appropriation to cover unfunded costs related to a
teacher pay increase approved by the Oklahoma Legislature.
Lawmakers authorized a $3,000, across-the-board pay hike for teachers last month, but didn't provide school districts with enough money to fully address related social security and insurance costs. School officials say they will have to divert funds from other education needs to address the unfunded salary issues.
At a speech to school administrators in Oklahoma City Friday
morning, Henry called the unfunded mandate unacceptable.
The Office of State Finance estimates it will cost 22 (M)
million dollars to address the unfunded costs of the teacher pay
