7-8-06 – Bonham Police say they received phone calls from two local residents Friday night reporting a possible scam. The scammers claim to be police officers raising money for the department. In both cases, no one gave out money, but authorities are putting local citizens on alert. Police say they never solicit money over the phone.
Last month, the Fannin County Sheriff issued a statement last month warning local residents about scammers using their agency’s name to solicit money.
Police recommend you never give personal information over the phone. Anyone that receives a suspicious call is urged to write down the phone number and call police.
