7-13-06 Construction crews are in the process of gutting the offices in Denison. Its repair and expansion job is finally underway after fire from a lightening strike forced the building to close last March.
The Red Cross received about $25,000 from local non-profits to expand their facilities just before the fire forced them to close. Now that money will go toward a new roof, as well as utility and foundation repairs.
The relief group has raised money to build an additional 600 square feet of meeting space and room to train volunteers in CPR, first aide and disaster preparedness.
It's going to cost about $100,000 to fix this building. Most of that will cover the fire damage.
The Red Cross is hoping to be back in their old offices here by September 1, just in time for the heart of hurricane season.
