7-16-06 – Bonham Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Saturday evening at about 6:30 p.m. Police received several 911 calls reporting an assault. When officers got to the scene, they found a 42-year-old man lying in a front yard in the 800 block of South 4th Street. The victim sustained several stab wounds.
Witnesses, at the scene, told police the suspect was chasing another female across a backyard. Officers then saw a man chasing a woman toward a vacant lot. One of the officers yelled for the suspect to stop. According to a news release from the police department, the man stopped and approached one of the officers. The officer ordered the man to stop twice, then fired one shot which hit the ground near the suspect.
Thirty seven year old Jeffery Daniel Hughen was taken into custody. He was not injured.
Police say he is being charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon (family violence), and resisting arrest.
The stabbing victim was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas by medical helicopter. His name has not been released.
