7-17-06 - Two candidates for public office in Bryan County are battling not just for the county treasurer's job, but over campaign signs as well. The controversy centers around the word "keep" and has both sides defending their cause.
Campaign signs for Tambra Eggenberg say "Keep Tambra Eggenberg For Treasurer" but Eggenberg isn't the incumbent. In fact she's *never served as county treasurer.
We asked Eggenberg about the signs on Monday. She says she doesn't believe they're misleading because she does work in the county treasurer’s office.
Eggenberg assists the current treasurer Sandra Mazzone who is not running for re-election. Traditionally, incumbents have the advantage in an election like this.
Still, Eggenberg says she only uses the word "keep" because she currently works in the treasurer's office. Her only opponent, a woman who held a similar job in the treasurer's office, disagrees.
The state and county election boards do not edit campaign signs for content. Eggenberg isn't breaking any laws.
