Half-Cent Tax Faces Ardmore Voters

7-17-06 City waste water rates are set to increase more than 30 percent and water rates another 30 percent within the next five years.

If the sales tax increase doesn't pass the city will be forced to raise them even more.

To put the issue into perspective city manager Dan Parrot says the average water bill runs about $520 a year. If voters don't approve a sales tax increase the average family could pay up to $830 a year.

When you factor in the half cent sales tax, the average consumer would only be paying about $50 a year more.

So in the city manager's eyes, the sales tax increase is the smarter choice.
