Shakeup in Marietta Police Department

7-18-06 The head of the Marietta Police Department is out of a job after city leaders fired him this week. Police Supervisor Gary Huff was in the hospital with diabetes complications on Monday when officers delivered termination papers to his wife.

The letter signed by Mayor James Lang listed several reason's for huff's termination. Number one being a fight Hugg had with his wife in June.

His wife Mary said she called Officer William Baker to calm Gary down. He was later written up for engaging in conflict that would cause disgrace to him or the department.

He was also cited for failing to show up for work three times and not calling the mayor, leaving his patrol car running for 18 minutes while he was inside the office and not re-certifying officers.

His family is shocked and says there's nothing that meant more to Gary than his job.

William Baker will take over as police supervisor until further notice. Gary Huff is still in the hospital recovering from diabetes complications.
