The following is a news release from the Texoma Medical Center:

TexomaCare-Denison Pediatrics Reach Out and Read Program now in full swing

TexomaCare-Denison Pediatrics is excited to announce that their first shipment of books from the Reach Out and Read program have arrived. Starting this week, physicians began giving new books to children at each well child visit from 6 months of age to 5 years, along with giving developmentally appropriate advice to parents about reading aloud with their child.

Through a $16,500 grant received earlier this year, TexomaCare-Denison Pediatrics joined a growing network of over 2,700 Reach and Read (ROR) programs serving children across the country. ROR is a program that promotes early literacy by bringing new books and advice about the importance of reading aloud into the pediatric exam room.

The goal of the program is to make a positive impact on the community while enhancing a child’s love for reading and getting an early jump on education. “We’re so excited to present this program to our patients. We want to do whatever we can to cultivate a love for reading in our children”, says TexomaCare-Denison Pediatrician, Dr. Joseph A. Lipscomb.

Another opportunity offered by TexomaCare-Denison Pediatrics involves volunteers reading to children in the waiting areas. If you would be interested in coming to read to children while they wait in the waiting room, contact the TexomaCare-Denison Pediatrics office at 903.416.6200.

TexomaCare-Denison Pediatrics includes Timothy Brumit, M.D., Jeannine Hatt, M.D., Shannon Hayes, M.D., Ted Hayes, M.D. and Joseph A. Lipscomb, M.D.
