Playground Equipment: Burn Danger in Heat Wave

7-20-06 OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Officials are warning parents of a danger to children during the current heat wave - playground equipment.

A two-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday with third degree burns to his feet after stepping on a metal maintenance cover at a park in south Oklahoma City.

First News accompanied firefighters in Sherman on Thursday. They used a thermal imager at a playground and found a black plastic rail at a slide and play area that registered more than 160 degrees.

Doctor Paul Silverstein at the burn unit of Integris Baptist Medical Center says a child's skin is more fragile and sensitive than an adults' and can easily be damaged by hot objects.
