(Sherman, Texas) United States Attorney Matthew D. Orwig announced today that SAMANTHA LEA LANE, 24, and RYAN THOMAS PITTS, 26, both of McKinney, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with access devices in the Eastern District of Texas, before United States Magistrate Judge Don D. Bush.
According to information presented in court, Lane and Pitts, employed as waiters in Allen and McKinney restaurants, conspired to illegally copy customers' credit card information using an electronic skimming device, also known as a "wedge." Lane and Pitts then sold these fraudulently obtained credit card numbers to a third party.
At sentencing, Lane and Pitts each face up to five years imprisonment and a fine up to $250,000. A sentencing date has not been set.
This case is being investigated by special agents from the United States Secret Service and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shamoil Shipchandler.
