7-24-06 Alternative energy is a hot topic in Texas and Oklahoma as state leaders want wind farms to be the future for both. But it’s a case of "not in my backyard" for some local viewers.
But Florida Power and Lighting energy company sees other potential for this land: The windy, open spaces are ideal for electricity production. They'd like to build up to 100 wind turbines along ridges in northern Cooke and Montague Counties.
Each turbine will consume about a quarter acre of land from residents who volunteer to sell. An FPL energy spokesperson says the clean energy produced will help power the Metroplex, and local communities. But some neighbors say they'll be an eyesore.
Concerned citizens are asking local and county officials to make resolutions against the plans.
FPL energy says several property owners are already on board.
