7-30-06 – Durant police are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital Saturday night. According to the police department, 41-year-old Timmy Hayes of Durant was shot in the shoulder as he walked across a field near an apartment complex on Mississippi Street around 10 p.m.
Hayes told police a man in a light-colored car stopped and opened fire. Police say the suspect fired three or four shots. Hayes ran several blocks to his home on Louisiana Street and called police for help. He was flown to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Police said they went to the scene of the shooting and recovered a car matching the description given by the victim. Officers say that’s when a man walked up and told them he was the person they were looking for.
Police arrested 23-year-old Demarcus Dukes. He faces a charge of assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
Investigators say they do not know the motive of the shooting.
