7-30-06 – The Lamar County Sheriffs Office is investigating an ATV accident that lead to the death of a Reno, Texas man Saturday night.
Authorities say a group of campers was riding ATVs in the Slate Shoals Area near the Red River in Lamar County at dusk when one of the riders drove off a 15-foot embankment that led down to the Red River. As other riders moved closer to help, another man wrecked his ATV in the woods and had to be flown to a Dallas Hospital.
Around 10 p.m., the riders called the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to help search for the man who drove off the embankment. Around 2 a.m., the body of 48-year-old Timothy Ash was recovered in shallow water.
Lamar County investigators are looking into whether Ash died on impact or later drowned.
