08-02-06 - OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Governor Brad Henry is issuing a statewide burn ban.
The governor says the ongoing hot, dry and windy conditions make conditions extremely dangerous and susceptible to fires. He says the state is in a near historic drought cycle and he wants to avoid a repeat of the wildfire outbreak of late last year and early this year.
He says long-range forecasts indicate there is no relief in sight.
Henry says he's appealing to all Oklahomans to respect the ban and have no outdoor burning whatsoever.
He says the ban does include exemptions for charcoal and gas grills and welders.
