Winds, Rain Collapse Airport Hangar

08-11-06 - A huge gust of wind is being blamed for the collapse of an airport hangar being built at the Grayson County Airport.

It happened about 2:45 Friday afternoon. A side frame of the hangar that had been embedded in concrete was pushed over.

Some other buildings at the airport have some roof damage. Portions of a tin roof were completely blown off of a firefighter training center.

Meanwhile, the heavy rains and winds have caused a power outage in Sherman. According to TXU, about 1500 Sherman residents who live in the northeast part of town, in the Perrin District, are without electricity. Officials with TXU say they hope to have electricity up and running as soon as possible.

The storms crossed Fannin County as well - knocking down trees in Bonham and Boyd.
