Teenager Killed in Drive-by Shooting

8-12-06 - Gainesville police are investigating a drive by shooting that killed a 16-year-old early Saturday morning. Around 2:00 a.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 block of North Morris Street. According to the police chief, the shooter or shooters drove by the home and fired about 10 rounds. A teenager, lying on a couch in side the home, was struck in the head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police are investigating the case as a gang-related shooting. At this time, they believe the victim was the intended target. Other family members were also in the home at the time of the shooting, but no one else was hurt.

No arrests have been made. The name of the victim has not been released.
