8-13-06 – Thirteen volunteer fire departments from both side of the Red River worked to put out a six alarm blaze in Grayson County early Sunday morning. Three vacant trailer homes in the Sherwood Shores area were destroyed.

The first fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. on Brook Valley Drive. When firefighters got to the scene, the trailer was engulfed in flames. Three hours later, crews learned of two more trailers on fire on Yorkshire Drive.

Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes, some as close as ten yards away. The fires were out by 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

A Gordonville firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was treated at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.

The Sherwood Shores deputy fire chief says the fires look suspicious.

This is the fourth incident of a suspicious fire in a vacant home in the Sherwood Shores area in two weeks.

Local departments have requested help from the State Fire Marshall’s office. They are expected to begin their investigation on Monday.
