8-17-06 - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol re-opened a 15 mile stretch of I-35 in Murray County shortly after 10:00 p.m. Thursday. A large grass fire shut down the interstate for most of the day.
Motorists were being detoured to US-177. Highway 77 northbound remains shut down at mile marker 42 due to heavy smoke and Turner Falls Park and Falls Creek Campgrounds have been evacuated. About 30 families were asked to leave their home Thursday evening.
Carter County Emergency Operations Center spokesman Paul Tucker
says firefighters from Davis, Sulphur, Dougherty, Joy, Hennepin,
Woodford, Gene Autry, Springer and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are
all battling the blaze in Murray County.
25 hundred acres have burned along I-35 in the Arbuckle Mountains.
