Two upper level waves will interact with a warm and very moist air mass to generate thunderstorms through Saturday. Lightning and torrential rainfall that could cause flash flooding are the primary threats...with a secondary threat of damaging winds. Turn around, don't drown!
8-27-06 - LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Officials confirm that 49 people were
killed in today's plane crash in Kentucky. The lone survivor is a crew member, who's in critical condition.
The Atlanta-bound Comair plane went down near Lexington's Blue Grass Airport shortly after take-off.
There's no word on a possible cause of the crash. Police say one thing investigators will look at is whether the plane used the wrong runway.
Comair says the flight crew was experienced and had been flying that airplane for some time, and the plane's maintenance was up to date.
The plane's two flight recorders have been located.
Police say the plane was mostly intact after the crash, though a fire broke out after impact.
A coroner says it may take several hours for bodies of the victims to be removed. A temporary morgue is being set up at the scene.
The crash appeared to be the worst domestic air accident in nearly five years.
