COLEMAN, OK ― The Coleman Schools superintendent is facing serious allegations and fighting for his job. Josh Stevenson was at a school board meeting Thursday night and has this report.
The expected turnout for Thursday night's school board meeting in Coleman was so great the meeting had to be moved into the cafeteria to accommodate all of the interested parties.
Most of that interest was generated by Item 8 on the agenda, a vote on whether or not to renew the contract of Superintendent Rickey Webb.
The trouble started when a group of concerned teachers went to the school board accusing Webb of wrongdoing. While those allegations have not been made public, another group of concerned citizens hired an attorney to represent them to the board, voicing their concerns about continuing Webb’s employment with the school.
Residents attending the meeting say they only want what's best for the students of Coleman Schools.
"There is only thing that they want here, and that is for many years we were one of the best schools, academically in our area, and that all the people want," Coleman resident T.E. Owens says.
Coleman school board members met in executive session Thursday night to determine Webb’s future with the Coleman school district but decided not to act at all instead they opted to table the decision for now.
We spoke to Webb before the meeting. He did not comment on the allegations at that time.
We will be following this story and keep you updated when a decision is made.
