9-18-06 - Local soldiers in Afghanistan came frighteningly close to a suicide bomber on Monday. A man was parked outside the 1-180th camp when he was approached by Afghan Police and detonated a bomb.
Photojournalist Todd Larkin, a member of the 1-180th out of Durant, relayed the news to KXII. Todd is one of about 400 soldiers serving a year and a half peace-keeping mission.
Initial reports indicate the bomber may have been waiting for U.S. soldiers when the police officers approached.
There were no injuries to U.S. troops, but Todd says the explosion was felt across the camp, and killed all three police officers.
