COOKE CO. -- A car chase crosses county lines today, and leaves one Sheriff's Deputy in the hospital. That deputy is a narcotics officer with the Grayson Co. Sheriff's Office.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the Investigator noticed what he believed to be drug related activity inside of a Ford Mustang near Sandusky, TX around 4 p.m.
He began pursuit of the suspect vehicle and radioed in that he saw drug related items being thrown from the car as he gave chase.
Around 4:30 p.m. his pursuit ended in Cooke County on County Road 118, just north of Callisburg.
The Investigator lost control on a sharp curve and went off the gravel road.
A good samaritan nearby just may have saved his life.
"I didn't see it, but I heard it, and I came walking up. The car was just sitting there, and I started to walk off, but I turned back around and the car started to smoke. I looked over there and he was digging in the back seat. I helped him out of the car because he was trying to get a radio or something. He wanted me to get the radio out of the back seat, but I told him that I wouldn't because it was on fire," said Lance Milam who was working in his front yard when the crash happened.
The Investigator's brand new, unmarked Dodge Charger burst into flames and is now destroyed.
And, although the Investigator had to be CareFlighted to D.F.W. Hospital, he appeared to be somewhat alright.
"He was holding his ribs and his arms, and shaking, but I couldn't really tell," said Milam.
Sheriff's Deputies were not able to located the Mustang after that crash.
The Grayson Co. Sheriff's Office is not releasing the Investigator's name, but they do not think his injuries are life threatening.
