VALLEY VIEW, Tex. ― A prestigious award was given to a local individual for his work with children and the elderly, but there's a twist―he's not human. Turbo, a four-year-old Rottweiler therapy dog, was inducted into the Texas Animal Hall of Fame on Friday.

Only three dogs in the state of Texas receive this honor each year. Turbo was chosen for his work at Valley View Elementary School and local nursing homes.

“He loves the children here, inspires them to read and learn about responsible pet ownership and pet safety, and then he equally visits the nursing homes where he's loveable and gentle and comforting to the senior citizens also,” Turbo's owner, Pat Crawford, says.

Valley View is the only school in Cooke County that has therapy dogs visit their students.
