FANNIN COUNTY, Tex. ― After two years of planning construction a $1.4 billion power plant in Savoy could begin this fall.

The Patillo Branch Power Plant would use natural gas and work in conjunction with the gas substation on U.S. Highway 82.

Bonham city officials say the next step is to get on a permit with the Texas Commission on Environmental Equality. Once they have the permit in hand they can bring in contractors to determine the most cost-effective way to use the 70 acres needed for the plant.

"Depending on the size that they decide they will have at least two units or possible four units to produce 400 megawatts of power daily, so it could be a pretty sizeable operation," Bill Jones with the Bonham Chamber of Commerce says.

Once competed, the plant would create about 75 new jobs.
