COOKE COUNTY, TX -- At just four years old, weighing in at one hundred and eight pounds, he’s the ears that elementary students at Valley View read to and he's also a big black Rottweiler best known as Turbo.

Every week he makes stops to Valley View Elementary and nursing homes in Gainesville helping in anyway possible.

"I can feel real gloomy and bad and sad and dark and all that stuff and he comes in that room and he sticks that nose in between those slides and he just looks at me and I just love him,” said Martha Clack a resident at Wheeler House in Gainesville.

Turbo celebrates all events at the nursing homes including the most recent, St. Patrick’s Day. Turbo's best friend is his owner, Pat Crawford, who trained Turbo to be a therapy dog.

"A therapy dog has to have the right disposition and temperament. It has nothing to do with the breed or the sex of the dog,” said Crawford.

Earlier this month, the Cooke County Commissioners passed a resolution declaring March 23rd Therapy Dog Day in honor of all that Turbo has done.

"Turbo had been a great asset to our school. The students love to see him coming. They all get excited and want to play with him and pet him but when it's time to sit down and read he's so accepting of them. He can't correct them, he can't comment on their reading. He just sits there and listens and looks at them. It's just very calming for them and they tend to do their best reading for Turbo," said Brenda Klement, a 2nd grade teacher at Valley View Elementary.

A Valley View elementary student offered his thoughts on the therapy dog.

"There are so many great things to say about Turbo, but in order to finish today, let’s just say Turbo is awesome. We love you."
