KEMP, OK -- Several hundred acres of brush and vegetation went up in smoke Friday as firefighters worked to contain a wildfire near Muddy Creek Road.

Shifting winds and the dry conditions fueled the flames for the better part of the afternoon. Kemp, Yuba, Achille, and Colbert Fire Depts. were dispatched to the area which is around 2 miles from Kemp. The owner of one property affected said he believed it started on a neighboring lot and the flames jumped the fence.

Friends of the landowner said between 200 and 300 acres burned.
