Fires broke out across the region on Saturday keeping fire fighters busy, seemingly all day. Grass fires broke out in Bryan and Carter Counties, while a barn in Wilson went up in flames, and a garage in Denison suffered damage as well.

The fire in Denison actually proved to be fatal.

According to a Denison Fire Marshal, an 82-year-old man was working on a lawnmower in his garage when a wood-burning stove ignited gasoline fumes.

Firefighters believe that the man suffered massive injuries and died. However, an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

A lawnmower is apparently to blame for a grass fire in Ardmore.

Firefighters say that just before 6 p.m. today as man was mowing his yard on McClain road, the mower somehow caught the grass on fire.

Ardmore and Dickson Fire Departments responded to the scene and quickly had the flames under control, but not before 5 acres of land had burned.

In Wilson, fire destroys a barn and several dozen surrounding acres of land around 11 a.m. Saturday.

Wilson, Dillard, and Lone Grove Fire Departments all responded to the scene located about 2 miles south of Highway 70 between Wilson and Lone Grove.

The Wilson Fire Dept. estimates that at least 100 acres went up in smoke.

Although no official cause has been released, property owners say neighbors were attempting an outdoor burn just before the fire spread.

"Just wish people would think about the weather conditions, burn ban or not before they start burning pasture. Because more often than not this is the result. They're not just burning up their own places, they're burning up other people's property and homes," said Eric Alexander, the property owner's son.

Officials say that at the 6 p.m. hour on Saturday, every single Fire Department in Carter Co. was working some kind of fire.
