LONE GROVE, OK ― A Lone Grove, Oklahoma, man says he is the victim of unfair hiring practices and wants to warn others before they end up in the same situation. Daniel Armbruster has the story.

Imagine you quit your job because you have been hired for a better one. But once you quit and go to the other company, they tell you, "Sorry, we can't hire you after all."

One Lone Grove man says that happened to him, and now with a tough job market, he is worried soon he and his family will face foreclosure.

William Severs has been a truck driver for more than 20 years. For the last three-and-a-half years he worked for a local trucking company. Severs says when he heard about Link America's great pay and benefits, he jumped at the opportunity.

"I was trying to better myself and my family," Severs says.

After applying and filling out a background check, Severs says he was told by Link America to start a paid orientation on March 23. He and his daughter, April, drove up to Broken Arrow, where it seemed to them he was going to start his new career.

"I had to drive him up there, because he thought he was going to get a truck and I was going to drive home by myself," April says.

But William says after two days of orientation and training, a representative with the company told him that he would not be driving for Link America.

A company spokesperson would not release an official statement, but told First News by telephone that Severs had an accident within the past three years disqualifying him for employment.

Severs wants to know why they did not inform him about the matter before inviting him up to Broken Arrow, knowing he had to put in a notice to leave his prior employer.

"They told me they already had this, they already knew about this,” William says.

The company representative also stated that it was just orientation and that Severs still needed to take a physical before he would officially be hired.

Severs provided First News with documentation, stating he did take a physical on his first day of orientation and a letter that says "welcome aboard".

Now without a job, William says his family's future is uncertain.

"I’m on the verge of losing everything I have."

Severs says he did attempt to get his old job back after the incident, but was informed his prior position had already been filled.
