10-05-06 - Nearly 1,000 people gathered in the Marietta High School Auditorium to say goodbye to Trooper Bill McClendon. He was a husband and father of 3, who lost his life doing what he loved most -- patrolling Oklahoma's highways.
Troopers stayed beside Bill's wife, Hope, since the day he was killed in a wreck on the Will Rogers Turnpike. They were beside her again Thursday as she said goodbye to her husband.
Bill's best friend and partner, Lance Schroyer spoke of the legacy he left behind, describing him as a dedicated trooper, but an even more passionate family man who was leaving the post he held for 8 years to be closer to the ones he loved in Ennville.
Troopers all across the country felt the loss, and even though they never met Bill, man came as far as California to pay their respects.
Bill's body to will be laid to rest in Sapulpa. His wife, Hope, is a teacher's aid at Marietta school. The couple has two sons and a daughter.
