10-20-06 - As the violence escalates in Iraq, one local soldier is safe at home in Ardmore for some well-deserved R and R. But for Christopher Harvey, it was a trip like no other. He got to see his firstborn child for the first time.
Private First Class Harvey learned of his daughter's birth in a letter. He was deployed to Iraq in early August, just weeks before little Kaylee entered the world.
A member of the 3rd Army Brigade based at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, it's Harvey’s job to help train the Iraqi forces in Kirkuk. While he knows his place is there defending our country, he says the other thing that keeps him going is knowing wife Maggie and daughter Kaylee are at home awaiting his safe return.
Harvey only has two weeks to spend at home before he's off again to Iraq. His mission should end this time next year.
