10-20-06 - The Earth Bio-Fuels Plant in Durant has finally begun producing after months of delay. The facility was actually supposed to open up sometime late last year, but there was a lot of waiting involved while changes were made to the plant; changes not only to produce better fuel, but to make workers and all of Durant safer.
For months folks have seen nothing but board member Willie Nelson’s picture on the outside, but now the doors are open. You take methanol and vegetable oil, run it through this entire plant and it ends up in these two tanks that say b-100, which means 100% Biodiesel. But turning vegetables into diesel fuel can be a dangerous process, which is why production was delayed several month new safety standards were set; standards that will keep workers and downtown Durant from any possible danger.
But now that everything is ready to go, Texoma could soon be one of the best places in the country to find some bio-willie. In addition to distributing locally, Earth Bio-Fuels says they want to give local farmers a new and more lucrative market for their products, an attempt to help out small farmers, just like Willie has done for years.
Right now the EZ Mart in Calera and Love’s Truck Stop in Anna are two of just 22 locations nation-wide where you can find Bio-Willie Fuel Pumps. Sales at those stores are close to regular diesel sales.
