Border Sheriffs Back Perry Campaign

10-31-06 - A week before Election Day, campaigning in the Texas governor's race and the talk of border control made a stop in Sherman Tuesday afternoon.

When they talk about border issues in Grayson County you think Red River. Rick Perry supporters were talking about why securing the one 300 miles away should be on everyone's mind when they vote next week.

After stopping in Tyler, four border sheriffs came to Sherman today discussing Operation Linebacker. That's the effort to fight smuggling operations around the border.

There has been very little federal help in keeping illegal activity on the other side of the Rio Grande, leaving it up to the state of Texas. So why should it matter to people in Texoma?

Like a linebacker, law enforcement in this area is the back-up to those border counties and the illegal drugs that come across could end up here.

Grayson County Sheriff Keith Gary presented the four sheriffs at today's event. He mentioned Grayson County’s recent crackdown on meth labs, a crackdown helped in part by state dollars they received under Rick Perry.
