Bryan County Wins Statewide Award

The following is a news release from the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful campaign:

Keep Oklahoma Beautiful has announced that the Keep Bryan County Beautiful has been named one of 23 recipients of the Award of Excellence in the group’s statewide environmental excellence competition. All awards will be presented at a banquet in Oklahoma City on December 7.

Judges gave the nod to Keep Bryan County Beautiful for the organization and implementation of a comprehensive plan to reduce litter and establish pride in Bryan County. From a small group of citizens a year ago, to a countywide effort today, this group is well on it’s way to accomplishing their goals.

“This competition historically attracts entries from excellent projects and accomplished individuals from across Oklahoma, ” said Rick Ewing, president of the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful board of directors. He noted that, “this year’s judges were directors from the Keep West Virginia Beautiful program. We will honor a total of 23 people, projects, businesses and communities. The positive efforts and accomplishments awe-inspiring,” Ewing said.

This year, the award presentations will be emceed by Oklahoma’s Secretary of the Environment, Miles Tolbert. The awards banquet will be held one day prior to Keep Oklahoma Beautiful’s annual environmental conference, Friday December 8 at the Oklahoma City Marriott Hotel. “A Vision for Oklahoma’s Future” is the theme for the all day educational event featuring a lineup of presenters headed by keynote speaker Clay Pope, former state legislator, whose address is titled “Conservation and Sustainability – The Keys to Oklahoma’s Future.” The day will consist of panel discussions, educational exhibits and sessions that explore both the challenges that may lie ahead for Oklahoma as well as some answers and solutions for citizens, organizations and entire communities.

The Conference is made possible by sponsors that include the OK Dept of Transportation, OGE Energy Corp, OK Dept of Commerce, Oklahoma Beverage Association, Public Service Co of OK, the Ardmore Beautification Council, the OK Dept of Environmental Quality and the OK Secretary of Environment’s Office.
