11-17-06 - Durant school and city leaders dedicated a multi-million dollar sports complex Friday afternoon. A crowd of nearly 300 people gathered to formerly dedicate the $7.2 million facility.
The 77 acre complex includes four softball fields, four baseball fields, a competition-ready track and field area, six soccer fields and one football field. Also part of the complex is locker rooms for boys and girls.
The complex will be primarily used by Durant High School but will also host youth sports games. The dedication marked the end of a lot of hard work and an opportunity to thank all those involved.
Organizers also announced at the dedication the creation of a manmade lake just to the north of the complex. That portion will be paid for by the Choctaw Nation and is estimated to be over a million dollars.
