11-27-06 - The Sherman Fire Department is now equipped to better communicate with surrounding counties. The city received three new radio units, about the size of a portable stereo, which will link different radio frequencies into a common channel.
Experts say the new feature will allow police and fire departments to reach each other more efficiently.
The city bought three machines and in addition to Sherman, they plan to install it in Fannin and Cooke County.
The technology came about after September 11th and should help in the event of a major disaster in northern Texas.
The units cost $9,000 each.
