Bonham Soldier Killed in Action

11-28-06 - A soldier from Fannin County was killed in action in Afghanistan Tuesday morning. Staff Sergeant Michael Shank of Bonham was killed during a routine patrol. His mother told First News that Shank's humvee ran over a land mine on a mountain road.

The 31-year-old had been in Afghanistan for about 6 months. He had served in Iraq two years ago.

Shank graduated high school from Dodd city, and joined the Army ten years ago.

He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters, ages 5 and 7.
