A man took his own life after a 2 hour standoff in rural Carter County Wednesday afternoon.
It started just after noon south of Ardmore on Hedges Road.
The sheriff says a 20-year-old man armed with a semi-automatic pistol kept authorities at bay in a wooded area.
The sheriff’s office, Ardmore PD, and OHP were on hand, but in the end, the man shot himself and died a short time later.
The sheriff is still investigating. He's trying to reach family members as well.
The man was carrying a card saying he was a member of the US Army.
